Introduction to Tochal Trekking Tour
This mountain gives mountain enthusiasts the opportunity to enjoy various activities such as trekking, hiking, mountaineering, rock climbing, bouldering, slack-line, skiing etc. The cable car line going up to the ski resort from the foothills of Tochal enables visitors to enjoy the amazing nature of the mountain without having to trek all the way up. Also mountaineers can choose to descend back to the foothills with the cable car if they’re tired or don’t have enough time.
The Tochal ski resort, located at 3500 meters of altitude, is the most famous attraction of this mountain. Being the highest in the Middle East, this ski resort is open to ski enthusiasts normally from early-December to late-May.
The 3-Star hotel located near the ski resort is also considered the highest in the Middle East and allows skiers to spend an unforgettable night at 3500 meters of altitude with comfortable bedrooms and hot shower after their adventurous day.
The trekking route to conquer Tochal summit is a normal trekking route and without technical difficulties. However; it’s also possible to do rock climbing in this region. Iranian and international mountaineers can be seen trekking in this mountain all year long, however; they may face some difficulties between December to late-February due to cold and windy weather conditions.
Conquering Mount Tochal can be a great choice for those who seek to add a little adventure to their trips since most travelers stay in Tehran for a few days. It can also facilitate the acclimatization process for mountaineers looking to conquer higher peaks such as Alam Kuh or Damavand.

Travel Itinerary
Day 1 – Trek to Shirpala Hut (2750 m)
This morning we visit Sa’dabad complex (Sa’d Abad Museum complex), located in the north of Tehran, to get a taste of the culture of Iran. Then we have lunch at Darband, a famous region located at the foothills of Mount Tochal where locals often go to enjoy the nice weather alongside a delicious meal. Having some rest, we start trekking up to Shirpala Hut at 15:00 (2-3 h trekking). Shirpala hut (2750 m high) is built by mountaineers during Pahlavi dynasty, dates back to before the Iranian Revolution at 1979 and is one of the oldest and most beautiful huts in Iran. This hut is fully equipped with beds, restaurant, baths and toilets. You get to see the stunning landscape of the grand city of Tehran at night from the balcony of Shirpala hut. We’ll have dinner and spend the night at the hut.

Day 2 – Summit Day of Tochal (3960 m)
Today we get up at 5:00 and leave Shirpala Hut after breakfast for the Tochal summit at 6:00 (4h trekking). We’ll stop at Amiri shelter/Sang-e Siah shelter (3500 m high). This shelter was built by the family of a mountaineer who died at this spot. Afterwards we continue trekking to the summit (2h). Arriving at Tochal summit (3960 m) we can see Mount Damavand and other summits in the central Alborz Mountain Range and enjoy the amazing view. We’ll rest at an aluminum shelter on the summit for a while and then choose between trekking or descending with cable car (depending on the time).
In case we agree on descending with the Tochal cable car we’ll trek to the cable car station (7th station) for half an hour and then descend all the way down with the cable car (1h). Otherwise we’ll descend using the same route we came from (4-5h trekking). Our program ends with returning to Tehran.

Destination Discovery –
Cheetah adventures made my trip amazing and I want to thank everyone involved especially my guides Mehrdad and Maryam. I wish I had more time to stay in Iran but there will definitely be another trip to Iran for me.
Taha –
An amazing trip climbing Damavand and visiting Tehran
I conquered Damavand and visited Tehran with Cheetah adventures during summer. At first I was reluctant about traveling alone but my guide Mehrdad and the rest of the team made me feel included and were very friendly. Mehrdad was very responsible and a professional mountain climber. He took care of everything during the trek. The trek was planned very well and because of acclimatization I didn’t feel sick as we got higher. The beauty of Mount Damavand is unspeakable and we also saw the Caspian Sea from the peak. After we came back we went to this village and had a very delicious lamb kebab and relaxed in natural hot spring that felt very good after trekking for 4 days. We came back to Tehran later on and Maryam showed me around the city. She knew a lot about the history and showed me Golestan palace and Abgineh museum, told me about Qajar and Pahlavi kings and took me to a great restaurant in Tehran Bazaar. Cheetah adventures made my trip amazing and I want to thank everyone involved especially my guides Mehrdad and Maryam. I wish I had more time to stay in Iran but there will definitely be another trip to Iran for me.
